If you are new to Unitarian Universalism, you may want to check out the Unitarian Universalist Association website to learn more about UUism. There you will find the history, principles, and ideals espoused by all UUA congregations, of which the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lawton (UUCL) is a part. You can also find many YouTube videos describing Unitarian Universalism by clicking on this link. (Please be sure to skip over the featured ad videos.)
If you plan to visit UUCL, you should know that we are fairly informal. Wear clothing that is comfortable to you - perhaps something you might wear to an informal dinner at the home of a close friend or relative (many of us wear jeans and a pullover shirt). You may sit anywhere you wish, as there are no reserved seats except for those with disabilities. You may find yourself seated next to a gay or straight person or couple, an atheist, an agnostic, a Christian, a Jew, a Pagan, or someone else or someone in between. We welcome all people with open hearts and open minds. We do not require you to recite any creed, to believe in anything other than what your own heart tells you (or does not tell you), we respect the religious and philosophical beliefs of others, and we consider ourselves a community supportive of each other in our search for truth and meaning. If we have a period during our service for silent reflection, you may do whatever you wish, whether it is pray, meditate, contemplate, remember, or do nothing - it's up to you! If you visit us and like what you find, you are more than welcome to join us on a regular basis, and you may join our congregation as a member whenever you wish.
Our church is located at 9th & Gore (816 W Gore Blvd) on the southeast corner of Gore, across from Country Mart. Parking is available in several places around our church building. We try to reserve the parking spaces on the front (9th street) for the elderly and those with disabilities, but we also have parking available behind our building, to the east of us behind our neighboring building in the alley and also in front of that building facing Gore. If you arrive and you have trouble finding a parking place, please find a temporary parking place, come inside, and ask us to help you find a better one. It will be no trouble, and we'd love to have you stay!
